August 21, 2011

Black hardwood floor are beautiful until they show where you have walked. Black hardwood floors are nice, but they become spoiled from footprints and pet prints. The oil from your feet comes out as you walk across the floor leaving a footprint path. The solution is a simple method of cleaning.

Remove any rugs on the floor and furniture in the room that you will want toclean under.

Clean the floor thoroughly, by sweeping or vacuuming all the dust, dirt and debris. If you vacuum use a soft bristle-brush attachment.

Fill a bucket with a gallon of warm water and add 1/2 cup of vinegar. Mix the two ingredients together.

Wet your mop with the water and wring out the excess.

Clean the floor with the damp mop beginning at one corner of the room, mopping in the direction of the floorboards. The vinegar solution will remove any build upon the floor. Mix up a fresh batch of vinegar water when the water becomes dirty.

Let the floor air dry. If you have any spots that remain wet, simply wipe the floor with a clean dry cloth.

Even though vinegar is safe to use, you may want to try a small inconspicuous area first to make sure it does not harm the finish of your hardwood floor.

Wear socks or slippers indoors.
