Maintaining Your Hardwood Floor

October 26, 2010

Proper care and maintenance of your hardwood floors is essential to enhance their life and appearance. Hardwood floors can be easily cleaned, and a daily cleaning routine is a must in order to protect the floors from grit and dirt that are most damaging problems. Using felt under furniture and keeping sunlight away from your floors will also help prolong their life.

The quickest and most effective way to clean hardwood floors is with a very light damp mop. Before mopping, make sure that you have removed all surface dust from the floor. This can be done with a soft broom or lightweight vacuum cleaner. Then, simply mop your floor. It is important to remove grit and dirt from hardwood floors. Dirt and grit are the biggest enemies when it comes to scratching or scouring the floor finish.

Our hardwood floors are finished using a surface finish called polyurethane with U.V. aluminum oxide and antiscrath. Polyurethane looks like a plastic coating over the wood and is extremely resistant extending the life of your hardwood floors. There are many hardwood floor cleaners available, we recommend using Bona floor cleaning products. Vist their website and follow the instructions on caring for floor with polyurethane finish.
