Why Grey Hues are the Latest Trend in Wood Flooring

According to the National Wood Flooring Association, one the hottest trends is toward a grey or driftwood. Grey has gained popularity in recent years as the perfect “neutral” tone for walls, carpeting and tile. It only makes sense then that grey tones are also trending in hardwood flooring. The Wood Floor Covering Association adds that the trend, which started on the West Coast, has now been fully embraced by the Easy as the perfect way to modernize an outdated room.

Grey tones can range from light neutrals to deep charcoals. Grey wood flooring at its best brings out the grains and textures that are characteristic of wood, adding visual interest to a room and allowing the floor to become very much part of the overall design statement you seek to make. At the same time, grey doesn’t overpower or fight with other colors. Greys also compliment many decorating styles.

One of our favorite grey inspirations rooms is this modern bedroom featuring Tip Top Grey Rustic European White Oak. The eggshell walls and clean lines create the perfect foil to this darker grey hue. The unique grey-blue color is achieved through an elaborate process of reactive stain, grain effect with extreme matte oiled finish.

Subtle beach style

For a beachy look that isn’t over the top, the designer filled this Sarasota home with earth tones and soft, warm textures. Notice the choice of varying shades of sand throughout the room: the paint color of the cabinets, the plush sofas, the side chaise.

Natural textures

The homeowners opted for a European White Oak hardwood floor with an inviting medium sand color to use throughout the home. This hardwood floor is semi-fumed, distressed and hand scraped lending a rustic, vintage touch to their seaside home.

Classic detail

Natural, beach-like touches such as green fronds and handwoven accent rugs accessorize the room. Sandy-hued furniture mimics the environment outside. The iron wrought overhead light fixture adds a dramatic element.
